Women – Led Taxi services in Milton Keynes

Women Wheelz Taxis, is a taxi service started by two women named Sharon Gorham and Chalsea Booth in Milton Keynes. A company that hires mainly the female drivers, with purpose to focus on safety, respect and comfort for woman.

Many women faced the bad experience with male drivers behaving inappropriately or making them uncomfortable, number of complaints were reported to the Milton Keynes City Council. This is where the idea was generated. The founders themselves faced such issue and thought instead of waiting for other they chose to bring change on their own.

 They initiated the service with an aim to improve the taxi and ride- hailing services, but more specifically, they want to enhance the safety and travel experience for woman. Moreover, the service designed in particular for woman it also benefits to others, including children, elderly people as well as the people with disabilities.

Despite the promising concept, and the idea being supported by groups like Fawcett Society, growth remains limited due to employee shortage. However, the company aims to expand their services to more cities like Northampton, Bedford and Oxford, the goal is to help more people feel safer while travelling. The other companies like uber have also started testing the services with women- only ride options.
