What is She showing up as today? : a story of a Doctor who crafts Wedding Dreams

Most of us believe that we need to pick a lane, one career, one identity, one version of ourself that the world can understand and accept, but some people say NO to this perception.

She is one of those.

Dr. Mubarrah Khan a practicing Doctor & a Stationery Designer by profession with a strong passion for Medicine & and Wedding Stationery. She has built a life as what she calls “the intersection of precision & poetry.” On any given day, she might be handling a patient with care and assurance, and on the same evening, carefully crafting a wedding invitation that will be the first chapter, as she puts it, of someone’s love story.

Two worlds, one purpose

Her story isn’t about the ambition alone - it’s the way behind it.

What keeps me going, she says “is knowing that both my professions leave a lasting mark on people’s lives.”

Medicine and Design both are polar opposite. One is scientific in nature and other lives on creativity.. But the thread connecting them is the same: people at the most important moments of their lives.

As a doctor she shows up for people in their most vulnerable moments - in pain & uncertainty. As a wedding stationer, she shows up for people in their most joyful moments of love, stepping into something new. Both require full presence and the work outlasts the moment itself.

One challenge that builds her confidence is balancing two professions with equal dedication, handling responsibility, creativity, pressure, and people with remarkable composure and commitment.

The habit that built her

She doesn’t credit talent for where she is, she credits habits.

The first is discipline - consistently showing up, even when it’s hard, even when it’s late. The second is attention to detail. Whether she is reviewing a patient’s file or designing a wedding invite, she believes the smallest things are what matters most. “The little things, “are what make people feel truly seen and valued.” The third habit, and perhaps the most underrated, is patience. Healing takes time. Good design takes time. Neither can be rushed without losing something essential.

These are not glamorous habits. There’re no secret shortcuts. Just the quiet power of showing up, paying attention, and trusting the process day after day.

Whether I am healing someone or creating something beautiful, I want my work to make people feel seen, cared for, and remembered.”

The family behind the journey

Her father, Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan, built Shifaa Hospital through years of relentless dedication. She says “Watching him taught me that success demands consistency, resilience, and commitment.” Her mother, Uzma Jan taught her something equally important- that ambition doesn’t have to come at the cost of losing yourself. Balance isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom. And her husband, Dr. Gybreal Salman, offers what every dreamer needs most: someone who believes in every version of your dreams, constant encouragement to follow that path. He says to her, “Do what you want, I'll handle everything else”.

Together they form the foundation beneath everything she built.

About the Hospital - Shifaa Hospital

As a doctor at Shifaa Hospital, a 200-bedded multispeciality healthcare institution, she carries forward a legacy of service & dedication to patient care. Founded by her father, Dr. I.A Khan, who serves as the hospital's Founder and Director, Shifaa Hospital was built with a vision of providing quality healthcare to the community.

Growing up in an environment where medicine was not just a profession but a commitment to improving lives, she developed a deep appreciation for the values of compassion, integrity, and excellence in healthcare. Today, as part of the hospital's medical team, she contributes to that vision by caring for patients with empathy and professionalism.

Her journey in medicine reflects both personal passion and family legacy. While she has carved her own path as an entrepreneur through Pixies Dust Studio, her role at Shifaa Hospital (www.shifaahospital.org) remains an integral part of her identity.

A lesson to young generation

To young people watching from the sideline, wondering if it’s okay to want more than one thing, her answer is clear: you don’t have to limit yourself to just one version of who you are. You can pursue different passions, build multiple identities, and still succeed – as long as you stay consistent, grounded, and genuinely passionate about what you do.

Message to women

Perhaps the most important thing she wants the world should know isn’t about career advice or productivity habits. It is something simpler and more radiant.

“I would like to break the idea that women have to choose just one path to be taken seriously.”

A woman can be creative and scientific, soft and ambitious, nurturing and driven. This is the full picture of a human being – and women shouldn’t have to shrink parts of themselves to fit into society’s definition of success.

Sharing her perspective on growth and independence, she says “To me Empowerment means having the freedom & confidence to choose my own path without feeling limited by society’s expectations.  It’s about being able to grow into every version of myself unapologetically.”

True success, she says, is building a life where purpose and passion coexist. A fulfillment & seeing the most important people in my life proud of me.

& She is exactly doing that.
