Vinesh Phogat finally secures entry after WFI registration issues
A well identified Indian wrestler and world championship medalist Vinesh Phogat reached the final at the Paris Olympics after defeating strong opponent Susaki Yui. But this peak moment eventually followed by a setback as she was disqualified for being overweight with 100 grams. This caused emotional and career shock while resulting into her decision to step away from wrestling.
Moving forward, she entered into her motherhood role but after 20 months she has made a major decision to comeback with more confidence. Now she wanted to compete in the National Ranking Tournament which is scheduled to held in Gonda from May 10-12 to begin her return. However, when she tried to register for the same, she faced problems with registration issues and deadlines, she then also tried to contact officials from Wrestling Federation of India but did not receive any support.
Despite it made her feel like preventing from participation, she still raised the issue publicly to bring more attention. This then only when the WFI responded and stated that there were technical issues with the portal which affected multiple wrestler’s participation. After that she finally received a timestamp showing her registration was actually completed. She appreciated the people for their support while confirming her successful registration in the games.
This will be her first competition after a long break which not only excites fans but also represents as the important move in her career. The fact that she will be competing in higher weight category (57) is what makes the games even challenging. Additionally, the tournaments are to be held at a location linked to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh who has always been controversial in Indian wrestling. While the challenges exist her return marks a new beginning where she will not only compete but also steps to overcome personal setbacks.
