South Africa Registers Close Win Over Pakistan

Initially South Africa’s pace attack dominated the match that caused Pakistan women’s team facing early collapse and slipping to 50/8. But the innings of Captain Fatima Sana of 55 runs and Tuba Hussan innings of 23 runs significantly helped Pakistan to post a competitive score of 126/9 in 20 overs instead of collapsing completely.
While the target appeared easy, Pakistan’s bowling attack kept turning the match into tense contest. Fatima Sana’s (3) wickets and Sadia Iqbal’s (2) wickets helped Pakistan to fight back and to keep the contest alive. This performance by Fatima also earned her the title to become first captain to score a half century with three wickets in same match in Women’s T20 World Cup.
When South Africa was losing wickets, instead of panicking the middle order played responsibly, especially the partnership in closing overs ensured the team to stay ahead and wining the match before last overs. Annerie Dercksen played a match winning knock of 52 runs and Nadine de Klerk’s 37 runs further contributed to a win. At the end the victory gave south Africa their first points of the tournament and Pakistan earned praise for its fighting spirit after a poor start.
