She Didn't Begin With Privilege. She Began With Responsibility

“Sometimes, you don't get the luxury of choosing when you become strong.Life teaches you strength before you are ready for it.”

Learning Responsibility Early

Growing up, Vanita experienced challenges that made her mature early.

Starting work at 17 meant understanding responsibility much sooner than many of her peers.

Her family became an important part of her motivation to keep going. Her parents remained her biggest source of strength, while her sister played a deeply meaningful role in her education by helping pay her fees.

Those experiences shaped the way Vanita looks at opportunity today.

She understands that sometimes a person does not need someone to change their life for them. They simply need someone to believe in them long enough for them to change it themselves.

“My family never allowed me to believe that my circumstances were the limit of my potential.”

Rebuilding From Scratch

Life later brought another difficult chapter.

A difficult marriage and the financial burden that followed forced Vanita to confront a reality she had not imagined for herself.

She had to rebuild.

There was debt to overcome, confidence to rebuild and a life to put back together.

But instead of allowing that chapter to become her identity, she treated it as another starting point.

She began again.

Not with certainty. Not with a perfect plan. But with the determination to keep moving.

That experience became one of the deepest lessons of her life: starting over is not failure. Sometimes, starting over is the beginning of your strongest chapter.

From Selling Software to Building Healthcare Businesses

Her career journey is itself a story of transformation.

Vanita began in retail sales and eventually moved into healthcare, an industry in which she has now spent around 15 years.

Her experience spans hospitals, diagnostics, fertility, healthcare media, health-tech and business development.

Coming from a B.Com background, she understood early that experience alone would not be enough if she wanted to grow into senior leadership.

So she kept learning.

Every role became a classroom.

Every difficult target became an opportunity to become better.

Every new industry taught her something different about customers, doctors, teams, business and leadership.

Her professional evolution eventually took her into roles involving P&L responsibility, revenue growth, hospital and corporate partnerships, key account management, team leadership and market expansion.

“I am proud of how far I have come, because every role I have taken has added another layer to the leader I am today.”

The Moment She Had to Prove Herself

One of the most defining chapters of her career came when Vanita took responsibility as Zonal Manager for the West Zone.

She was the only woman Zonal Manager among the pan-India Zonal Managers and was responsible for a 35-member predominantly male team across ten cities.

The market was highly competitive, and the business initially faced resistance from hospitals.

There were doubts about whether she would be able to build the market.

Vanita responded by going to the ground.

Within three months, she travelled extensively across cities, meeting hospital COOs, CEOs and CMOs, understanding their requirements, building relationships and working towards getting MOUs signed.

She established teams, opened new markets and built relationships where there had previously been little confidence.

The business eventually reached approximately ?1.5 crore in monthly revenue, with around 150 hospitals signed up.

But perhaps the most meaningful outcome was not the number.

It was proving to herself that she could walk into a difficult market and build something from the ground up.

“I was not given confidence because I had already proved myself. I had to build confidence by doing the work.”

Building an IVF Market Through Relationships

Another defining chapter came when Vanita entered the highly competitive IVF ecosystem in Mumbai. She was entering a market with established players and no existing network of relationships to rely on. So she started from zero.
She began meeting leading KOLs across Mumbai, eventually engaging with approximately 45 key doctors and building relationships that translated into patient referrals.
Her days involved extensive fieldwork, sometimes six meetings a day.
Month after month, she focused on strengthening relationships, understanding doctors' needs and creating a sustainable referral ecosystem.
The result was a B2B patient referral pipeline of more than 20 patients a month—an achievement that was particularly significant in a competitive IVF market.
For Vanita, the lesson was simple:

“Relationships are not built in presentations. They are built through consistency, credibility and showing up.”

The Leader She Is Still Becoming

Today, Vanita continues to work at the intersection of healthcare, business growth, technology and patient access.

Her journey has also taken her towards AI and digital transformation. She continues to invest in executive education and upskilling because she believes that leadership requires the ability to understand what is coming next—not just what worked yesterday.

Her involvement with XELIX, a doctor-led aesthetic healthcare platform, represents another chapter in this evolution, bringing together doctors, patients, technology, business growth and healthcare access.

For Vanita, the ambition has never been limited to holding a senior title.

She wants to build.

Businesses.

Teams.

Healthcare ecosystems.

And eventually, a leadership legacy of her own.

A Recognition of the Journey

Being recognised with the Women Changemaker Awards 2026 – West Zone by She Inspire Magazine is meaningful because it represents recognition of a journey that began long before any award.

A girl who started working at 17.

A woman who carried family responsibilities.

A professional who started with a B.Com degree and built a 15-year career in healthcare.

A woman who went through difficult personal circumstances, faced debt, rebuilt her life and continued moving forward.

A leader who entered rooms where she was underestimated and chose to prove herself through action.

And a daughter who continues to recognise that her parents' support and her sister's sacrifice played an important role in helping her reach where she is today.

The award is therefore not the finish line.

It is a milestone along the way.

“I Know I Am Meant to Build Something Bigger”

Vanita does not describe herself as someone who has “made it.”

She describes herself as someone who is still becoming.

She is still learning.

Still taking on challenges.

Still building.

And still carrying the ambition to become a CEO.

“I have seen difficult times. I have had to start again. I have had to rebuild myself. But I never stopped believing that I could become more. Today I stand strong, bold and confident—not because life has been easy, but because I know I can handle what comes next.”

Her journey carries a message for every woman who believes her circumstances are holding her back:

You may not control where you begin.

You may not control every challenge life puts in front of you.

But you can decide whether you keep moving.

For Vanita Duggal, that decision has been made many times.

And every time, she chose to move forward.

From responsibility to resilience. From starting over to building again. From selling software to leading healthcare businesses. And from surviving challenges to preparing to lead at the highest level.

Her story is still being written.
And she is not done yet.
