RG Kar case victim’s mother nominated as candidate by BJP for 2026 West Bengal assembly election
A grieving mother steps into politics in order to seek justice for her daughter and bring change in society, turning her personal distress into public fight for women safety. Ratna Debnath, is a woman whose daughter was raped and murdered in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in 2024.
The RG Kar case shocked the whole nation and raised concern about women’s well- being and security and further led the anger in people to protest and question the law & order in country. The mother now herself ventures into politics, to determine the push for justice and bring the better safety measures for women. She wants to raise her voice in even stronger way through politics.
She is contesting elections as a candidate of Bhartiya Janta Party in the Panihati area for 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. She will be contesting against the TMC’s Tirthankar Ghosh and the CPI(M)’s Kalatan Dasgupta. While, the party’s motive for fielding her as a candidate is to reflect their ideology of standing up for victim voice and public sentiment as well as challenging the current ruling party in an area i.e., Trinamool Congress (TMC).
