Padma Recognition Crowns Harmanpreet’s Historic Journey

 

Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur was honoured with Padma Shri by the president Draupadi Murmu. The ceremony was held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on May 25, 2026 and the award recognized excellence across different fields.

While Harmanpreet was acknowledged for her contribution to women’s cricket in India as it was under her leadership that India won its first Women’s ODI World Cup in the year 2025. Her consistency and leadership skills played a key role in this milestone achievement as well as she has significantly contributed in elevating women’s cricket in India globally.

She described the honour as “very big moment” for her while expressing gratitude after receiving the award. She later thanked her parents, coaches, teammates and fans while appreciating the support they provided throughout her journey in cricket and life.

This was one of the most memorable and proud moment not only for her but for the Indian women’s cricket team as a whole. This reflects the growing recognition of women athletes at national levels and Harmanpreet’s achievement inspires many young girls to pursue cricket professionally.
