Historic Win by Team India in Chess Olympiad 2024!!

On 22 September 2024, India created history in the Chess Olympiad, which was held at SYMA Sports and Conference Centre in Budapest, Hungary. India won the first-ever gold medal in the Women’s section by defeating Azerbaijan in the final round. The team consists of Harika Dronavalli, Vaishali Rameshbabu, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal, Tania Sachdev, and Abhijit Kunte, who won against Azerbaijan by 3.5-0.5. Harika Dronavalli, Divya Deshmukh, and Vantika Agrawal won their respective matches, while Vaishali Rameshbabu drew hers. 

 

This victory was part of a double gold medal for India, as the men’s team also won the gold. This team was led by Abhijit Kunte, who won nine out of 11 rounds while dropping only one round against Poland. Before this India won the bronze medal in 2022 in Mahabalipuram.
