From Dreams to Reality: Dr. Lakshita Varshney’s Journey to Building a Healthcare Empire

 

Dr. Lakshita Varshney is an ambitious and compassionate doctor, who is a founder, Managing Director, and Transfusion Medicine specialist at Amritasha Hospital and Trauma Center. Dr. Lakshita focuses on one quote “The quality you deserve, we serve”, and she and her husband Dr. Abhishek Gupta run their hospital while keeping this quote in mind, and taking care of their patients. This article tells about her life journey, challenges, and her vision for the future.

Introduction:

Dr Lakshita Varshney is a transfusion medicine specialist who has 7 years of experience with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital and healthcare industry. She is managing director of her Hospital and Pvt. Ltd. Company (Amritasha Hospitals and Trauma Center Pvt. Ltd.), which was founded in 2019 in Varanasi along with her husband, Dr. Abhishek Gupta, who is an Orthopedician and Chairman at the firm. She is also the Blood Center Incharge of her own fully equipped blood center embracing cutting-edge technologies and quality work. She has a strong educational profile (8 professional degrees) from various renowned institutions of the country, which includes MBBS, MD-IHBT, DNB-IHBT, MNAMS, PGDHHM, PGDHIM, PGDMLS and MBA in Hospital Management.

She is confident that in being her own role model is one of the best ways to achieve personal progression and self-improvement. She said, “It enables me to focus on my aims and vision and where I want to see myself 10 years down the lane and it also, reflects on my strengths and weaknesses and directs a scenario to be able to strengthen the perspectives to maintain a positive outlook through various circumstances vested upon life”. 

Dr. Lakshita’s career journey started with the preparation for MBBS entrance exams back then in 2007. After completing MBBS, she did her post-graduation from MGM Medical College and Hospital, Navi Mumbai, in MD Transfusion Medicine, which is a unique multi-dimensional specialty that includes all aspects of blood transfusion such as elements of blood banking, immunohematology, coagulation, and hematology and bone marrow transplantation. Post-MD, she also did a DNB in Transfusion Medicine and became a member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences(Delhi). She also pursued post-graduation in Hospital Management, Health Insurance Management, and Medicolegal Systems from Symbiosis University. Lately, Dr.Lakshita also studied MBA in Hospital and Healthcare Systems from BITS-Pilani to understand the core of Hospital Management.

She along with her husband, Dr Abhishek Gupta, who is an Orthopedician, founded their multispecialty hospital spread over 28000 sq. ft area along with a well-planned blood center spread over 4500 sq. ft, one of the largest in the area.

The major turning point in the entire journey has been when she realized the fact that she is more affluent in management whether it be hospital operation, finances, and business expansion. So she took over the hospital management part of running the enterprises apart from practicing her transfusion medicine.

Challenges and Achievements:

One of the most significant challenges Dr.Lakshita and her husband faced was financial assistance, but with parental support and bank loans, they were able to surpass the initial kick-start and move towards progressive growth. 

She considers her most significant achievement to be developing a medical care center that provides affordable, reliable, and quality care treatment to people driven by technology and expertise. They have an empathic patient-centered approach with competence in research and academics and raise an integrated system of healthcare delivery with moral, ethical, and social responsibility.

Dr.Lakshita was an awardee of the Top 100 Inspirational Women of 2024 at the Global Women Summit 2024 and was awarded with “Leading Women in Healthcare” at the National Healthcare Education Summit 2024.

Personal Insights:

In today's hectic schedule and work lifestyle of being a doctor, it is rather difficult to maintain a balance between career and personal life. But Dr. Lakshita never stops trying for it. She tries and set boundaries between work and personal time, takes breaks and vacations, when possible, schedules timetables by delegating Tasks, and practices relaxation techniques.

The driving force behind her actions and keeping herself motivated is work satisfaction and the ability to provide quality patient care to most individuals who require it. She said, “The happiness you feel in being contented in work, cultivates productivity, and pushes you to do more work further and further”.

Impact and Vision:

Dr.Lakshita is currently attempting to expand her hospital into different departments, inculcating academics, and education perspectives and developing more branches of the hospital in rural areas where patient care is most required.

Dr. Lakshita has ambitious goals for her medical center in the future, she added “My future goals are to establish my medical center as a leading center of healthcare services in terms of comprehensive patient care and to develop the existing blood center as a globally recognized one. In addition, provide, encourage, initiate, or promote facilities for the discovery and to improve or develop new methods of diagnosis, understanding, and prevention and treatment of diseases”.

The advice Dr.Lakshita would like to give young women is “Take risks and step up with confidence to embrace opportunities. Be financially independent and upgrade your knowledge regularly in order to pursue different circumstances and to pave a pathway for obstacles hindering your growth”.
