Dr. Akshaya Pawar: A Journey of Determination and Compassion in Dentistry

Often children follow the path, that was followed by their parents. But sometimes children make their path that is very different from their parents, and wonderful things start happening, same goes for Dr. Akshaya Pawar, she is a renowed dentist but both of her parents were lawyers.
This article delves into her life story, what made her pursue dentistry, and her challenges.
Introduction:
Dr. Akshaya Pawar, dentist by profession, has her clinic at Wakad, Pune. She completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from a reputed college called Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Karnataka. She was born and brought up in Mumbai and then shifted to Karnataka to complete her graduation.
Dr.Akshaya’s Father and Mother both are lawyers. Everyone in her family had the perception that she would also pursue the same profession but her determination was different and for the same, she got freedom of choice from her parents and she chose health science by choice not by chance.
There was no specific reason for what drives her in this profession but as per well said every happening there is cause but for her choice, there was nothing.
Overcoming Challenges and Celebrating Achievements:
Everyone has to face some new challenges when they move to a new city, Dr.Akshaya also faces challenges, being the most pampered child of a family her brother stays with her for 3 years. Still looking back she remembers she was regretting why she broke her comfort zone and jumped into an unknown world where everything was new to her.
Another challenge she faces is to find some patients for practical purposes. She feels that it was a challenging task. Language and culture barriers were there, but her brother carried out those responsibilities. They have to offer perks to their patients then only they become ready. Apart from these challenges, she feels that it was a fantastic experience of learning. But still, when talking about her college life she feels that “Even we enjoy college life as DIL CHAHATA HAI (Break the rules follow your heart)”.
When she stepped into the professional world, frankly expressing it was like walking on an ice cake because, on the ground floor of her building, there was a Dental Clinic run by a lady Dentist. She joined as rooky there, so there was a good repo between her and her mentor. She taught Dr.Akshaya everything she knows, and that’s helped her a lot in her professional life. She taught her how to handle a patient’s psychology rather than his or her tooth. Dr.Akshaya remembers forever, that she taught Dr.Akshaya to be a psychologist first then a dentist, and that’s true in every profession.
Dr. Akshaya also got a chance to attain refresher training managed by IDA (Indian Dental Association) in Pune, where she got a chance for hands-on training.
As a dentist, Dr. Akshaya believes that the most challenging phase was during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a dentist she can’t maintain a safe distance from patients, She said “As the word IMPOSSIBLE itself says I’M POSSIBLE, I prove the same, telemedicine works and not a cent- percent but somehow my patients get relief from pain and suffering”. That gives her immense satisfaction and inspiration during a pandemic.
Personal Insights:
Dr. Akshaya later got married to Doctor but he is a Veterinarian. So different professions that is also not by chance but by choice. She had to shift from Mumbai to Yavatmal. Dr.Akshaya and her husband are from totally different professions but both are curious about each other’s profession especially her more curious about animal treatment. Dr Akshaya’s husband inspires her to be excellent in her service to needy and poor patients.
As every working woman has to make a balance between profession and family, Dr. Akshaya has to do the same but fortunately, her mother always stands behind her as a support system by taking care of her two daughters. She added, “I pray to god that every working woman has a mother like mine”.
Along with her family who inspires her more for service towards society is none other than her work itself, she believes that way because her day-to-day work gives her a variety of experiences and inspires her for ever-increasing Midas touch to her profession.
Impact and Vision:
In the Vidharb region of Maharashtra, where she stayed for 4 years KHARRA(A MIXTURE OF TOBBACO AND OTHER CANCEROUS INGREDIENTS)was very popular among school-going children to age old people everyone is addicted to it and at middle age succumbed to cancer. That picture disturbed her, so in the Yavatmal district where she was staying she arranged awareness camps and the free-of-cost dental health camps.
When Dr.Akshaya shifted to the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, she extended dental health services to old age persons at minimum cost or sometimes free of cost because of her father, who always says Money matters but not always inspire her.
From Kolhapur, she shifted to Pune where she ran her dental health clinic. Throughout this journey, she got diversified knowledge, environment, and also variety of patients. These diversified experiences drive her towards more responsibilities towards rural people because rural people are so unaware of dental health than urban people, so periodically she arranges dental health check-up camps in her hometown and nearby villages. She added, “Really that gives me immense pleasure and satisfaction which one can’t get by earning Doller or Pound”
Conclusion:
Dr. Akshaya extended her work related to dental health services extended to one of the corporate companies – Bajaj Finserv Health and she believes that corporate gives her the opportunity to serve their employees as a Dental Health Consultant again inspires her to do better than the best for the profession as well as for welfare of society.
At last, she added, “As it is well said that Dentist have lion’s heart, eagle’s eye, and lady’s touch, I have lady’s touch, but by daily experiences, I gather lion’s heart and eagle’s eye to see inside exactly what wrong with which teeth”.
