Bhumi Pednekar on rise of Women- led OTT Content
Bhumi Pednekar in a recently held International Film Festival Delhi 2026 spoke about how Over- the- top platforms are making a significant impact in expanding opportunities for woman in Indian Cinema. She highlighted the role of these platforms in generating more female centric and meaningful characters, instead of portraying woman as supportive figures.
She also went on to make an important distinction, that woman in industry have always demonstrated courage in choosing script. That courage wasn’t born from streaming platforms, it just enhanced the visibility and amplification of that courage. She further added that these platforms do not rely heavily on box office pressure which facilitates space for more realistic and unconventional stories. This in turn, enables the development of strong character driven narratives, including those led by women.
Bhumi also shared a more broader career insight and stated that chasing relevance is temporary and would fade away after a certain period of time, what truly matters is to stay authentic in your work and artistic skills. As the entertainment landscape continues to evolve, storytelling approach in an industry is becoming more inclusive and realistic. This shift is likely to shape the future of Indian cinema and digital content as more diverse and reshaping gender dynamics in storytelling.
