Ananya Pandey Gets Backing Amid Viral Dance Sequence

The dance sequence of Ananya Pandey from her latest film Chand Mera Dil was released recently for which she faced mass social media trolling. The clip that went viral featured the Bharatanatyam inspired fusion and performance by her that was criticized by many who called it unauthentic. This was further considered as disrespectful for the Indian classical dance by users and the trolls mockingly called it “Nepo Natyam”.

On this backlash faced by Ananya, the author and columnist backed her while questioning why only actresses get targeted for performances disliked by audiences. She highlighted that actors sometimes are expected to perform the dance styles in which they are not specialized or trained professionally as well as argued that if the audience disliked performance than the criticism should also be followed to the choreographer and director.

Moving further, Ananya also received support from her father Chunky Pandey and other members in choreography team. Her father urged the audiences to first understand the context of the scene instead of judging it directly as well as he also clarified that the scene aimed a cinematic fusion not a pure Bharatnatyam recital. Assistant choreographer Ananya Kurup also praised her for the hard work and dedication she put to prepare for the scene in a limited time.
