All Women-led Kayaking club in Kerela

 

The initiative began when the women in area identified the tourism potential in local waterways and decided to make use of it as well as received supported under Responsible Tourism Mission Kerela. The initiative is situated in developing rural tourism place named Maravanthuruth, where activities take place along the Arivalthodu canal which connects tributaries of the Mavattupuzha river.

This realization led to the formation of pioneering group and the ultimate launch of Harithatheeram, Kerela’s first all-women led kayaking club under the guidance of a 63year old trainer N.G. Indira. This initiative maintains diversity by including participants from every age group even a class 10 student. This significantly contributes to enhance intergenerational participation and inclusivity. The basic trainings have been completed and the selected member will be going for advance training in Alappuzha while the new boats are also expected to be introduced soon.

Additionally, it follows a structured pattern where morning packages are available under 300 with breakfast, the afternoon packages are for just 500 including lunch and the evening packages allow you to have joy in just 250 while including tea and snacks. All the activities run from 6a.m. to 6p.m. and currently covers only 1km stretch of the canal.

The club members also ensures that the environment stays clean and supports maintain its beauty. The initiative not only promotes women inclusivity in leadership but also positions them as economic drivers as it significantly boosts local livelihoods and rural tourism. It also aims its expansion under water street projects as well as the restoration of nearby art infrastructure in order to enhance tourism appeal.
