Savitha Wins Women’s Asian Chess Championship

 

A 19-year-old Savitha Shri Basker, one of India’s international chess masters emerged as the champion of 2026 Women’s Asian Individual Chess Championship in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. She won the title on the basis of tie-break scores as while competing against Afruza Khamdamova Uzbekistan from she scored 7.5 in nine rounds and finished tied at last. The achievement only marks milestone in her chess career but also adds another prestigious title to country’s growing reputation in international tournaments.

Savita showcased remarkable performance throughout the tournament while competing against Asia’s strongest opponents as well as remained unbeaten in most of the competitions and earned important victories in the later rounds. She stayed calm and followed strategic gameplay that significantly helped her maintain the lead even in intense competitions.

This stands as the 13th Women’s Asian Championship title for India.
