Nepal Gets Its First Woman Prime Minister, PM Modi Praises the Milestone

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his congratulations to Sushila Karki, who has been sworn in as Nepal’s first woman Prime Minister. Her meeting is being drop as a landmark moment in Nepal politics and a major step forward for women empowerment in South Asia.

Karki took charge following the resignation of former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, who stepped down after a week of violent anti-corruption protests in the Himalayan nation. Speaking at a public gathering in Imphal, Manipur, PM Modi described Nepal as a close friend and trusted partner of India, tied together by shared history, culture, and faith.

On behalf of 140 crore Indians, the Prime Minister congratulated Ms. Karki, calling her the first woman leader to take charge of Nepal’s highest political office. He spoke confidence that the new Nepal woman PM would guide the country to peace, stability, and prosperity.

PM Modi also lauded the people of Nepal for their commitment to self-ruled values even during political confusion. He pointed to recent efforts by young men and women who were seen cleaning and painting streets, describing their actions as a symbol of hope and a sign of the country’s resilience.
