Kuljeet Kaur Scrips History with Global Science Honour

Prof. Kuljeet Kaur Marhas, a scientist from the Physical Research Laboratory celebrates history by becoming the first Indian women to be elected as a Fellow of The Meteoritical Society for 2026. This is considered as one of the most prestigious scientific organizations in planetary science and meteorites and no other Indian women in the history of 93years has earned this recognition before.

Moreover, what makes the achievement even more remarkable is that she is the third scientist overall to receive the fellowship after scientists like Devendra Lal and J.N. Goswami. This is not just about her personal success but also represents as the landmark for Indian scientific community and women’s representation in STEM fields across country.

The society is known for recognizing scientist all over the world who has made significant contribution to the understanding of meteorites, planets as well as the origin of solar system. Prof. Marhas was recognized for her research on meteorites and planetary materials, pre-solar gains, isotope studies that helps explaining how solar system was formed billions of years ago. Additionally, her research also involved the advanced lab techniques such as NanoSIMS which is used in planetary researches.

Prof. Marhas highlight the recognition as the strong research environment at the Physical Research Laboratory and reflects India’s rising potential in planetary science. Her success will not just inspire young women to explore careers in such fields but also sets as a proof that Indian scientists are making the significant contributions by providing meaningful solutions to the universe’s biggest mysteries and shaping the future of planetary or space science.
