Kind, Yet Unshaken: the journey of Dr. Sibani Priyadarshini
There are professions that heal the body, and there are professions that restore a life. Occupational therapy is a field built on impact, and Dr. Sibani Priyadarshini has devoted the past eight years to it.
Growing up in Cuttack, Odisha, Dr. Sibani stepped into the world of Occupational therapy almost by chance- and fell in love with it by design. “When I joined the course Bachelors in Occupational Therapy, completely unknown about this course”, she recalls, “slowly when I started learning, I felt this was the way where I can genuinely help the people to improve the quality of life.” What began as unfamiliar territory soon become as her calling- a field that blends healthcare and holistic care for human beings.
A journey built on purpose
Dr. Sibani completed her Master’s degree in 2018 from the prestigious Swami Vivekananda National Institute of Rehabilitation Training & Research (SVNIRTAR), Olatpur, Cuttack. She began her professional career in Kerala as Senior Occupational Therapist, before moving to academy in 2020. Today, she holds the position as Assistant Professor in the department of Occupational Therapy at KLE Academy of Higher Education & Research, Belgaum while simultaneously serving as a senior consultant at KLE’s Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital & MRC.
What sets Dr. Sibani apart is her rare ability to bridge two worlds with equal authority- the classroom and the clinic. Her teaching style is student -centric deeply engaging, ensuring that future therapist is equipped not only with textbook knowledge but with the clinical wisdom that only experience can provide. Her patients, meanwhile, receive care that is holistic, compassionate, and tailored to each individual’s unique needs.
Challenges as a compass
When asked her about her role model, Dr. Sibani’s answer is both humble and profound: “My difficult times are themselves a role model to me.” This mindset- of drawing strength from struggle- has been quiet engine behind her growth.
Among the challenges she has navigated, she speaks candidly about learning to balance accuracy with clarity, handling ambiguity with structure rather than assumption, and resisting the pull of overconfidence. “I have learned the importance of acknowledging uncertainty and being transparent when information may be incomplete or evolving,” She reflects. These are not just professional lessons- they are mark of intellectual integrity that define exceptional clinicians and educators alike.
Achievements that matter
Dr. Sibani contribution have not gone unrecognized. She is the recipient of the Best Poster Presentation Award, the Honorary Doctorate awarded by the American Merit Council, and the Gyandaan Honorary Doctorate Award- recognitions that reflect the breadth of her impact across research, academia, and practice.
Yet for her, the most meaningful achievements are less about trophies and more about transformation: helping patients reclaim independence, guiding students toward confident clinical practice, and making complex ideas accessible and actionable to those who need the most.
Vision for a more inclusive future
Dr.Sibani aspirations extend beyond personal advancement. She envisions a future where occupational therapy is more widely understood and accessible- where people of all abilities can live dignified, fulfilling lives. She is passionate about nurturing functional independence and confidence in her patients and dedicated to mentoring the next generation of therapists who will carry this mission forward.
