Hetal Amin: Building a World Where Every Woman is Safe, Strong and Independent

A Mission That Began with a Simple Belief

In a country as vast and diverse as India, real change often begins in small rooms. In the 1990s, Hetal started her handicraft skill training sessions. As time went on, from skill sessions to exhibition stalls, she created a women-empowered community. To give shape to this cause, she founded Kalyani Sahasik Mahila Vikas Sangh (KSMVS) in 2013, an organization dedicated to helping women stand on their own feet. More than a decade later, KSMVS is now recognised and honored by many distinguished institutes, including the Government of India and international newspapers and magazines, with 150+ honors and counting.

From Skills to Livelihoods

Her vision is straightforward yet impactful: inspiring women to take charge of their own lives while showcasing how vast and magnificent Indian crafts are. Her own background shaped this vision. She holds qualifications from NIFT and IITC in fashion design, along with a B.A. in English. Her understanding of design and craft gives her a rare advantage: she knows what makes a handmade product beautiful, and what makes it sell.

Giving Craft Its Rightful Place

India's handicrafts carry centuries of culture, yet the artisans behind them often remain unseen. Hetal works to change that. There are many isolated places in India where access to technology is limited, and because of this, many artisans do not know about the government schemes and benefits that can uplift their livelihoods.

Standing Up for Artisans and Their Rights

Just as importantly, she makes sure artisans receive the benefits they are entitled to. In villages across Gujarat, her team has informed rural women about government schemes and distributed 100,000+ government artisan cards and counting. For many of these women, that card was the first official recognition of their craft.

A Personal Mission

“My goal is to bring women forward, and I want to build an India where all women are strong.”

Standing Up Against Injustice

Empowerment, in Hetal's view, is incomplete without justice. She is associated with women's workplace harassment and related committees and institutions, including ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau), Gujarat State, DIC (District Industries Centre), MSME (Government of India), Garvi Gurjari and the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, as a non-government officer.

Recognition That Reflects Impact

Hetal's journey has been honored with titles such as Nari Shakti, Woman Entrepreneur and Changemaker. She received the “Daughter of Gujarat” award in 2016, along with many other government honors. Many articles and stories about KSMVS's work have appeared in newspapers and magazines, including international media.

A Bridge Between Government and Women Entrepreneurs

One of her proudest moments came when she handled the Ahmedabad Shopping Festival, a program associated with the Prime Minister, which was noted and appreciated by Narendra Modi. She works to connect government departments with artisans and businesswomen, helping them understand opportunities, schemes and platforms available to them.

Beyond Women's Empowerment

Hetal's vision extends to the wider community. Her organization conducts seminars on environmental awareness, showing that a strong society cares for both its people and its planet.

The Road Ahead

Today, she continues to organize government exhibitions and provide employment opportunities to women in need, turning opportunity into daily reality. What makes Hetal Amin's story inspiring is its consistency. Whether she is training a woman in a remote area, sitting on a committee or curating an exhibition, the goal stays the same: a stronger, more independent India, built one woman at a time.

A Legacy of Empowerment

For every woman who has held her first artisan card, learned a new skill or found the courage to speak up, Hetal's work is proof that change is possible, and that it starts with someone willing to begin.
