From village in Arunachal to a world stage: Lipin Ete makes history in USA Open Karate Championship 2026

 

History has made in the sprawling arena of the Fort Worth Convention Centre in Texas this April. Lipin Ete, a young karate athlete from the remote village Kugi Pomte in Aalo, West Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh, stood on the podium with not one but two medals- a gold and a silver- becoming the first karate athlete from Northeast India to secure medals at the prestigious global karate tournament.

The USA Open Karate Tournament held annually at Fort Worth Texas, from April 1 to 5, is considered as one of the most combative international karate tournaments on the global- attracting elite and emerging martial artists from across the continents. The participation was more than 3,500 athletes representing over 40 countries, making Lipin’s double medal even more remarkable.

Her journey to Fort Worth become a true test of the determination, shaped by communities that rarely find space in mainstream sporting conversations.

Arunachal Pradesh CM was among the first to publicly celebrate the victory of Lipin Ete. He described the achievement as a proud moment not only for Arunachal but for entire nation.

Well beyond the medals, Lipin story carries a deeper significance for every young athlete training in the hills, valleys and villages that how perseverance, support and mentorship can transform dream into achievement.

As she returns home to Arunachal Pradesh with the medals around her neck, Lipin Ete just not a champion but also a trailblazer- one who has opened the door to world stage.
