Fiji’s minister calls for stronger pathways for women at WIN Convention 2026

 

Shashi Kiran, the women, children and social protection minister (Fiji) at the closing of the Women Invigorating the Nation (WIN) Convention 2026 held at Grand Pacific Hotel, addressed a strong speech about the women growth in leadership roles. As a chief guest at the closing ceremony of event she made a call for stronger system and supporting structures to empower women across different sectors.

She raised concerns about the limited growth of women, she said that even through some women have reached at the top positions, its still not easy for many to succeed as they encounter unnecessary challenges in society. She emphasized the need for more safer workplaces, equal opportunities and most importantly supporting system. So, that more women can grow and the number not only limits to one but expands to two, three, four, five and many more.

She also highlighted the government initiative plans to help women, such as Women’s Economic Empowerment National Action Plan 2025-30. The plan aims to generate women employment, increase leadership opportunities, and expanding access to money and resources. Along with this the authority also aims to expand 80% digital inclusion of women to use technology for business and jobs.

 She further mentioned in her speech that if more women work, it can boost the country’s economy. She went on to add that the goal is to increase the women participation to 60% by the year 2030, and as the Fiji is struggling with workforce shortages, women can fill the gaps with their contribution in economy.

She at the end concluded the speech by appreciating efforts of organization working for women empowerment like The Women Entrepreneurs Business Council and Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation. She also congratulated the winners of Green Star Awards, and the audience perceived her speech as motivational, appreciative and left them with progress and hope.
