Cabin Crew Alleges Colleague Tried to Sexually Assault Her During Layover

Gurugram: In a shocking case that has again thrown the issue of safety on the work place on the limelight, an airline crew member has accused one of her colleagues of trying to rape her at a hotel in Gurugram. It allegedly happened during one of the layovers when some of the members of an airline crew were staying at the premises. After the case was lodged by the victim, the police opened up a case and is under investigation.

Officials claim that the woman had come to the police station and filed a detailed complaint against her colleague saying that he had stormed her hotel room and tried to rape her. She complained that she was molested and attempted to be raped by the accused but she was able to fight off and alert the attention of the police. The other colleagues including hotel staff members came to her rescue after hearing her shouts of help thus averting the issues that would have arisen.

The hotel staff provided first aid to the survivor and transported to a hospital where he was medically examined as in normal cases. According to the confirmation of police officials, there is an FIR registered on the corresponding sections of the Indian Penal Code regarding sexual assault, and criminal intimidation. The suspect has been determined, and questioning is being done.

One of the seniors at the police said, we have taken the complaint of the complainant and are currently looking into the matter. The hotel is being studied on the CCTV footage taken on the premises and the testimonies of witnesses, including the hotel staff and other crew members are being documented. Further proceedings will be made on evidence.

The related airline company that is connected with both of the employees has also noticed the incident. Officially, the airline stated that it has a zero-tolerance policy regarding harassment and misconduct of any kind and fully cooperates with law enforcers on the matter. The company further stated that disciplinary actions were launched against the alleged employee internally pending the investigation.

This case has raised fresh debates on how safe women in the work places are particularly in those organizations where travel and late stay are very common. Aviation workers have to perform their duties in stressful conditions and rely on professional discipline and import of colleagues. Such cases underscore the importance of tightening safety measures, having effective redressal measures, as well as providing sensitization training regularly.

The activists of women rights have reiterated that the female victims should be made to feel heroic enough to report such crimes to the authorities without being stigmatized or retaliated against. It takes so much courage to face forward. The society should be on the side of survivors and administer fast justice, said the spokesperson of a women advocacy group.

The police stationed in Gurugram have also stressed the investigation will be conducted within the time frames. In the meantime, the survivor receives the needed assistance, such as counseling services.

As the case develops, it comes out as a sharp contrast that sexual violence is a serious problem even in the workplace. Accountability may be ensured, enhancing workplace policies, and promoting the culture of respect are essential measures on the way of ensuring that the environments become safer towards women.
