Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s ‘Maa Inti Bangaaram’ scripting Box office history

When Samantha Ruth Prabhu stepped before the camera for Maa Inti Bangaaram, she wasn’t just making another film- she was making a statement. Released on June 19 2026, the Telugu action-comedy drama has since done what few films led by solo female star have managed in recent memory: hold audiences captive across weekends, scale past records, and signal a genuine shift in how Tollywood views its women-led projects.

The numbers, quite simply, tell a thrilling story.

An opening that set the tone

On its opening day alone, the film registered an impressive ?5.35 crore at the domestic box office across India, with an overall average of 31.9%. that was enough to comfortably sail past mid-budget Telugu competitors and claim a spot among the Top 10 Telugu Openers of 2026.

But what made the opening remarkable was who was driving those footfalls. Samantha herself acknowledged the contribution of female audiences to the film’s launch, expressing that it was ‘the most heartening thing of all’ to see women show up so heavily to the opening day- a shift from the long- held belief that theatrical openings are driven primarily by male audiences. For a star and producer who has long championed content that speaks to and for women, it was a moment of validation as much as celebration.

“To see a film open so well on day one is hugely humbling and means the world to us. So very glad to see the day when audiences embrace a film irrespective of whether it is male-led or female-led.” Samantha wrote on X

Break the record of Arundhati

Maa Inti Bangaaram, has continued its strong run at the box office and has now surpassed the lifetime record of Anushka Shetty’s 2009 film Arundhati. With this, Maa Inti Bangaaram has emerged as Telugu Cinema biggest woman-led hit.  The action- family thriller added another solid day at the ticket counters on day 10, taking its worldwide gross to Rs78.71 crore.

Anushka Shetty’s Arundhati has remained on top of the woman-led hit in Telugu cinema since 2009 by grossing Rs 70 crore. That Samantha’s Maa inti Bangaaram managed to achieve this feat in just 10 days is monumental for a woman-led film. The Samantha- starrer is now inching towards Rs 100 – crore mark globally.

The weekend surges

The film’s momentum didn’t just hold- it grew. Powered by a sterling word-of-mouth praise for Samantha’s massey, sari-clad action avatar, the film witnessed an outstanding upward trajectory over its first weekend, with audiences returning in numbers that mid-budget Telugu films rarely see beyond Day 1.

The film has maintained steady performance across major regions, especially Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The budget of ?20 crore, Maa Inti Bangaaram has already earned nearly four times its production cost globally.

A film, and a filmmaker, worth celebrating

Directed by BV Nandini Reddy who reunites with Samantha for the third time. The story of Maa Inti Bangaaram is tailor-made for Samantha’s range- emotionally layered, physically demanding and deeply rooted in the idea of woman protecting what she loves at all costs.

As Maa Inti Bangaaram continues to draw audiences into its second and potentially third week, it is doing more than setting box office records. It is quietly but firmly expanding the idea of what Telugu cinema's leading women can headline, produce, and deliver — and audiences across India are showing up to applaud every bit of it.
