Meenakshi to Challenge RS Nomination Rejection in SC
Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan moves supreme court while challenging her rejection for the nomination of Rajya Sabha. She argued that her rejection of the nomination was unfair and out of the line of election rules, so she is taking urgent legal relief before the further election process began. Through her petition she requested the Apex court to rereview the returning officer’s decision as well as allow her candidature.
The case attracts masses as it comes right before the few days left for Rajya Sabha elections. This controversy began after the scrutiny of nomination papers when election officials found issues in affidavit submitted by her. The Returning Officer stressed that her nomination was rejected due to the reason that Meenakshi did not disclose court related details in her submitted affidavit.
However, Congress Party defended her by stating that there is no pending criminal case filed against her and the rejection is unfair decision or an incorrect interpretation of rules. Congress Party has been opposing strongly the returning officer decision and even approached the election commission to restore her candidature as well as for fair review of case. Despite all when Natarajan didn’t receive any respond, she decided to approach supreme court.
The matter is expected to be heard on urgent basis, keeping the election schedule into consideration as supreme court’s decision holds significant impact on Rajya Sabha election process. Moreover, if the court’s decision favour Natarajan she will be able to contest the election as her nomination would be restored otherwise, she will remain out of the Rajya Sabha race.
