Dr. Charu Naveen Bansal: Learning, Leading, and Evolving—One Season at a Time
Leadership for Dr. Charu Naveen Bansal, has never been a straight road it has been a series of seasons, each demanding its own strength, patience, and reinvention. Currently serving as the Director at JK Business School, Gurugram, she brings with her over 22 years of experience across two demanding worlds: corporate banking and academia. What binds these journeys together is not position or prestige, but the resilience rooted in values.
Her professional and personal lives began simultaneously. Just after her post graduation, she stepped into marriage and a fulltime banking career almost overnight. Her sixteen-year corporate journey through institutions such as ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and IDBI Bank is marked by relentless learning, long hours, and constant adaptation.
“Learning, failing, rising, growing—but never stopping, because the show must go on.”
Strength Built Between Roles
While working full-time in banking, Dr. Bansal pursued her doctorate and raised two children a phase she recalls as intense, demanding, and deeply formative. In the last 2 decades she encountered everything a workplace has to offer: inspiring mentors, difficult leadership, office politics, and moments of exceptional teamwork and achievements.
After completing her PhD, past six years, she transitioned into academia first as Dean of the MBA program at IILM University, and later as Director at JK Business School. This transition from corporate to academia was a continuation of purpose but not an escape from pressure. It allowed her to mould young individuals by seamlessly blending education with her extensive corporate experience.
Looking back, she takes pride in having built two successful careers while nurturing a close-knit family. She candidly acknowledges that such balance is never achieved in isolation. The unwavering support of her spouse made it possible for her to move forward, even during phases when she consciously stepped back to prioritise her children. Today, her two daughters are not just her biggest supporters, but her confidantes and advisors.
Grief, Grit, and Inner Motivation
One of the worst moments in recent years came with the loss of her father, a man whose belief in her strength never wavered. Just a day before his passing, she discussed an international teaching assignment with him. His happiness in that moment became her source of courage to take-up the assignment while navigating through the mourning period.
She believes that the strongest motivation is from within and this internal power reflects in her personality. Challenges, are not deterrents but invitations to think differently, find solutions, and grow powerful. Multitasking across professional, social and personal roles for over two decades taught her an important lesson: striving to be a “superwoman” often leads to exhaustion. Yet she continues to strive for excellence doing justice to every role she undertakes.
Perspective on Success and Leadership
Through her words success emerges not as a pursuit limited to material milestones but as the ability to look in the mirror and feel proud of the woman that reflects back. She believes that while achievements may fade, but the impact one creates on others lasts. Her leadership style emphasises on solutions over complaints, optimism over limitation, and values over convenience.
What is most compelling in her style is her firm advocacy of balance in today’s fast-paced culture. Hustle without pause, she feels, leads only to burnout. Sustainable productivity lies in knowing when to push forward and when to pause and breathe silently. She stands strongly for what she believes, guided by gratitude and compassion.
To all younger generations, her message is true and grounded just like her spirit: life tests you before it teaches you. Failure is not a verdict, but the beginning of understanding. Giving oneself permission to fail often opens doors to ideas that success alone never could!
