‘BE YOUR OWN REASON TO SMILE.’ - Dr Smita Ghosh, Founder (Mi Merak)

Dr Smita Ghosh is a doctorate in Psychology, a gifted hypnotherapist, and a determined motivator to bring a positive change in the mental and psychological health of people. A mental health therapist and motivational psychologist and speaker, she is a known face in her chosen field of specialization. 

Smita completed her graduation in commerce from Mumbai University. Later, she pursued M.A in Counselling Psychology from IGNOU University, where she learnt that she had a gift of understanding the psyche of humans, especially children and that she can bring a massive change in society simply by following her journey as a holistic mental health therapist. 

 ‘Each of us has to contribute back to society.  Her journey has therefore been towards a cause - A cause that believes has the capacity to change society in small ways leading to a better, more aware and brighter future.’

She would describe me as Self-motivated. She gets on well with all kinds of people, is determined never to give up until you get something right and like to keep a positive attitude. She believes in love turning great ideas into reality.

Dr Smita is really passionate about her pursuit in life. As a homemaker and a professional, as a mother and as an individual, she tried her best to balance various aspects of life to work in perfect symphony with each other. 

Her moral dream is to reach the apex of her chosen field of study to benefit adolescents and youngsters in the most formative years of their lives. She indeed strives to make a change in their lives and inculcate subtle nuances that will help them remain positive and abjure negativity from their lives.

Additionally, she is a Reiki Master and has completed a Clinical Hypnotherapy course (3rd level) from EKAA. Smita is also an advanced fitness and gym instructor and has done her training in Power Yoga, Aerobics, primary and advanced Pilates, Yoga, advanced Physio Ball and Medicine Ball, diet and nutrition fitness, etc, from the Indian Academy of Fitness Training, Mangalore.  

She also specializes in CBT, Positive Psychology and counselling techniques to improve the psychological and mental health of children. She is also a happiness life coach and is a certified NLP Master practitioner. She has also acquired a certificate in Child Psychology and counselling adolescents. 

Smita entered the field of counselling and training, as a freelancer and worked in Kolkata and Nigeria. Smita also worked as a freelance Yoga and meditation trainer and as a counsellor in Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar between November 2009 to May 2012. In 2014, she joined an NGO named ‘Saath’ as a trainer and counsellor and later in 2016, joined Anand Niketan School in Ahmedabad to help children with special abilities deal with regular life via counselling and training. 

She is the founder and director of Mi Merak, a company that believes in motivation and happiness as a business proposition. Dr Smita has too volunteered at ‘Wellbeing Volunteers United (Poddar Foundation)’ where she works with communities to combat stress and anxiety that has been a by-product of the Global Pandemic. 

Some of her other ongoing projects include ‘Advocating Empathy’ and ‘Swayam Rakshak.’ She is also a mental health influencer and regularly organizes webinars and online lectures to evangelise the breaking down of stigmas surrounding mental health. 

She also has worked as a motivator and trainer for a Miss/Mrs India 2021 – FSIA and has been widely recognised for her work through numerous awards. A lifetime member of the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), as well as an active member of organizations, such as Indian School Psychology Association and International Benevolent Research Foundation, American Psychological Association, Counsellor Council India and Institute of Scholar (INSC), Smita, has been a constant motivation to people around her to excel. 

With such strong faith in herself and determination to remove the stigma and shame surrounding mental health, Smita is on a journey to help, children, youth and adults alike and help them break free from degrading mental and psychological health issues.
